There was a recent post in Jezebel detailing the difference between the number of male and female correspondents and guests. The central thrust of the post stated that it was difficult for female comedians to stay on the show, for a variety of reasons.
There has been a long held perception of women being less “funny” than men. I don’t think it’s necessarily true. I’ve got a bunch of female friends are are pretty damn funny. For the most part, I think it’s because there just aren’t asso many female comedians at the amateur levels, and the fewer ones there are in the amateur levels the fewer there will be that go professional.
ON AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT SUBJECT… I don’t know how much I like Jezebel and other feminist blogs. I’ve got a friend who puts up their articles in her Facebook status and I read them from time to time. Sometimes I find that they do have legitimate articles, but there was one that I had an issue with. Basically, it was talking about how larger women are screened out of jobs at clothing outlets like American Eagle, Aeropostale, Urban Outfitters, etc. and how both those clothing outlets didn’t make clothes for… “larger people”. I’d like to point out that larger men are screened out of those jobs as well. Do I think there’s a certain “size-ist” perception in the world? Yes, I do. Do I think it’s wrong?
Well… not exactly. Being obese isn’t a societal group to be cherished. It’s a health risk. The more obese people there are, the larger the drive is to make it socially acceptable. I don’t think being fat is wrong. I myself am… rather portly. I do think that there is a point at which it becomes an issue of greed and poor health.
So… yeah. Anyway. I’m off to do more physics homework… WARGH…
